“A man named Stapleton lived in Allenwood.”
(continued from previous page)the priest made a ring of holy water and put Stapleton in the ring and the ghost couldn't harm him. The priest told him to ask the ghost what was wrong with him. He said he was put there at the ditch until the day of general judgment and that Stapleton disturbed him. Then Stapleton asked him how did he die and he said he was killed on the hill of Downings (townland) and they making the Grand Canal. The priest put the ghost between the froth and the water in the Red Sea until the day of General Judgment.
