There is a cross about a quarter of a mile from Prosperous and it is called Hatter's Cross, because there was a hat factory there long ago. There was a military barracks in Prosperous and it was burned during the rebellion of 1798. The Colonels house may still be seen in Prosperous and the field where the barracks stood is called the dead field.
