    During the troubled times of 1798 (their) there was a great battle at Hodgestown. John Doorley was their leader. He was a farmers son from Lullymore near Carbury. The English won under their leader Captain Saunders. They killed about 180 men. John Doorleys ammunition ran short and he had to surrender. Doorley and nine other men escaped. They swam the Boyne. Early next morning, he was found, and brought to Mullingar barracks, where he was detained. Doorey also went to Kilcock. They
