    St Patrick's Day
    Long ago parents made the sign of the cross on the right arm or their chin, with burnt sally so that they would have St.Patrick's blessing during the year.
    St John's Night
    People took out lighted blessed candles + shook holy water in the gardens to ensure a good crop. Bonfires were lighted all over the country also & youngsters & grown-ups danced and played about them. Holy water was also shsken on the animals in the name of the Father, & of the Son & of the Holy Ghost.
    Oiche Samna
    The old people prayed for the dead on this night as they thought the souls in Purgatory were on the [rafter?] asking for prayers. "Snap Apple" & other games were also played on that night. Marriagable people burned
