  1. Long ago there lived near Kenmare a gentleman named Mr. Cunningham. Some times he was very fond of drinking, and when he used be drinking he would always bring some friend with him from town. He had a cook named Mary Shea, and a boy named Jack Palmer. The boy or girl used not have their dinner untill the gentle man have his. The dinner hour was two oclock, one day there wase two chickens for dinner, and when Mr. Cunningham was going to town, He told the cook of he was not back for two o'clock or so, that perhaps he would have dinner at town. Mary waited untill twenty minutes after two, and she did'nt see him coming. So they decided to eat one of the chickens. Mary and jack had one nearly eaten, when to her surprised, she saw Mr. Cunningham and another man coming with him, she did not know what to do. He asked the cook had she
