  1. There was an old man called Sylvester McCarthy in Lehud long ago and he had an orchard. He was at home from Mass one Sunday. He went out to look at the cows about Mass time. When he came in he saw a neighbouring girl of about ten years whom he knew was sick and dying at the time. He asked her what she wanted. She said that she wanted apples, and he went out to the orchard to get them, When he came in she was not there. She could not go out without he seeing her. She died shortly after. Another little girl before she got sick was one evening about nightfall with her brothers and sisters who were playing around the field. She was sitting on a fence where there were three steps
