    MacCarthy's Gallant Son.
    "Through hill and glen they marched and drilled,
    When shone the rising moon,
    Their hearts with hopes for Ireland filled,
    To burst her fetters soon.
    Brave-hearted, bold and fleet were they,
    And dauntless every one;
    But the fleetest one of all, they say,
    Was McCarthy's gallant son.
    The Peelers round his dwelling, drawn,
    While slept poor Mac serene
    But soon he awoke and bested them,
    And 'cleared; the River Sheen."
