    was to make the thread finer. Next, it was spun with a spinning wheel into thread. The thread was made into hanks and bleached. It was bleached as follows:-
    First, water was boiled in a pot. Weeds were burned into ashes which were pressed together and put into the pot. This would help to whiten the yarn. It was next spread on the field to bleach it further. Next, the thread was warped and after that it was woven by a weaver who lived in Killarney. The cloth was next spread out in the haggard to bleach it further. It was then fit to be made into a garment.
    Very few local people knit socks. Those who do knit purchase the
