- Timothy Donovan was a very good humoured witty man. He lived in Skahies. He was very easily frightened and he would be very afraid to go anywhere after nightfall, yet he had a great habit of frightening others by acting the ghost.
One night some girls were going to a dance and Timothy made up his mind to give them a fright on their way home. He told his secret to his nephew, John Foley. Young Foley was a courageous boy and resolved to give his uncle " a yard of his own measure".
About ten o'clock Donovan stared off to meet the girls. He took a large white sheet with him. When he heard the girls coming he put the sheet about him and stood under a great hawthorn tree. Immediately young Foley, also dressed in white appeared on top of the opposite fence. Poor Donovan screamed(continues on next page) - Informant
