- Cure of whooping cough- a frog was caught and put into a vessel containing water. while the fit of coughing lasted the frog (in the vessel) was held underneath the mouth of the patient that the complaint might be transferred or transmitted to it.
To cure mumps. The person who had this complaint might visit a neighbor- hospitable entertainment. tea etc was supposed to effect a cure.
another cure was to cross a donkeys back and go underneath it three times in the name of the holy trinity.
still another was to lead the patient on a donkeys halter to a river or stream where two townlands bordered each other and to cross and recross three times. then cure might be repeated daily.
a person who caught a "man keeper" a newt or liyard alive and licked its back three times could cure a burn by similarly licking it.
