  2. Local Match-Making
    Settlements and proposal of marriage in days gone by differed somewhat from those with which the present generation is acquainted. When a boy saw a girl whom he liked well he paid a professional match-maker to help him to get this person as his wife. The match-make went to a market or fair which he knew this girl's father would attend. Here at this market or fair he would settle with the girl's father a night on which he himself together with the intended
