A gentleman was going to it and he saw the man trying to live under his furniture on the road side. When he reached Kilkenny he said, "The landlord of Ballyragget says he is charitable but I saw a poor man who he evicted as I was coming to Kilkenny and the sight would make one cry" When Mr. Kavanagh heard this he sent word immediately for the house to be restored to the man.

  2. The landlord in this district, Ballyconra, Ballyragget was Lord Mountgarret Butler. The family became settlers after the Reformation when they turned Protestants.
They were looked upon as good landlords and no evictions are known to have taken place.
