    Old people say this prayer,
"Here I lay myself down to sleep
To God I give my soul to keep
    If any evil trouble me
    O Blessed Virgin waken me.
There are four corners on this bed.
There are four angels o'er my head.
Named Mathew, Mark, Luke and John
God bless this bed that I lie on.
If I should die before I wake
I pray to God my soul to take."

When a person was bleeding very badly, they used to say
"Beside the river Jordon, St John baptized Our Lord,
The Saviour spoke, the river stood,
and why not Jesus stop the blood."
