  1. When the fog remains in the valley it is a sign of rain and when the fog goes over the top of the hills, the day will be fine. If the church bells are heard across the river, the weather will be fine. When the train can be heard running on the line the weather will be frosty. Another sign of frost is a clear sky covered with stars at night. If the stars are running they denote rain. A bright red sun-set fore-tells frost. South or South-west wind brings rain, North or East winds
