  1. Once upon a time there lived a mouse, a louse, and a little red hen. Both the mouse and the louse were very lazy, but the little red hen was always busy.
    One day the little red hen was sweeping the floor, when she found a grain of meal.
    "Who will go to the mill to get this ground?" said the little red hen.
    "I wont," said the mouse.
    "Nor I," said the louse.
    So she went herself.
    When she came home she made the tea.
    "Now I must see if there's anyone coming" said she.
    She came back and said that the fox was coming. The mouse and the louse hid under the bed, and the little red hen hid on the mantle-piece.
    The fox came in, and he said loudly:- "Fee! fie! fun!. I smell the blood of an Irish man. Come down and scratch my back! If not
