  1. Strange animals usually appear about this district as ghosts. A friendly old man named Thomas Maher of Clashacrow tells a story of a black dog which roams about my father's farm in Clashacrow about night fall. In our castle field there is an old mound where it is said a castle once stood. The inhabitants of this castle were very rich and before the last person died he buried all the money under a large flat stone in the band of the river. This black dog is supposed to be this man's ghost and every night he leaves the ruins and comes down along the banks of the river to Arigna bridge and then spends the night
