- One day John Glennon of Ballyouskill challenged William Maher and Mike Gough in mowing a field. That morning when they went into the field, William had started to mow and he thought he would win and he never stood to sharpen the scythe, and Willain Maher was first to give in, and Glennon won and he mowed two acres and he left the other two far behind him. William Maher stayed in bed about four days after.
