  1. There is an old Fairy Fort in Ardra, a mile from Castlecomer,. There is an old story told about it. One fine moonlight a young man was on his way home from rambling he sat down to rest on this old fort. Suddenly a party of riders appeared. In the middle of them was a young girl seated on a white horse. She cried out "Is there any one here can help me? Suddenly the man springing forward pulled her from the horse's back. Instantly the whole party dissappeared leaving the young man and woman alone. He took her to his home where he lived with his mother, but the girl was unable to speak for a year she dwelt with them but remained dumb. At about the same
