  1. One evening St. Joseph was delayed at his work and Mary and Jesus went to meet him. As they were going they had to pass through a corn field. When Jesus saw Joseph coming he ran to meet him and in doing so he walked on a bramble which made his foot bleed. Ever since there grows a red flower in the corn field called a poppy.
    On Christmas night every ass is said to go upon his knees as the one in the stable of Bethlehem did on the first Christmas night.
