  1. Seagulls on land are believed to be omens of storm and rain. It is a sign of fine weather when sheep go to the higher parts of the field for the night, but when they stay in the hollows it is a sign of cold weather. Cattle lie at the sheltered side of the ditch facing the south when the weather is cold. There is a pink flower called the pimpernel, which is said to close when rain is coming.
