  1. There is a field on Mr. Carrigan's farm in Ballyfoyle in which Mass was supposed to have been said in the Penal Days. The place where the Mass Rock was is surrounded by mounds of earth and the hollow in the field cannot be seen except at a very short distance from it. When the ground in this place is dug up pieces of leather and other parts of boots are often found. It is said when the people were hearing Mass the soldiers came on them and murdered them.
