  1. The local fairs are held at Kilkenny Castlecomer and Ballyragget. Sometimes the buyer comers to the farmer's house to buy the animals. The buisness done on the fair is selling and buying of cattle sheep horses and pigs. The fairs of Kilkenny are held on the fair green and when a person is going into the fair green he has to pay a toll of about a penny per beast. When a bargain is made the farmer and the buyer show their agreement by spitting on the hands and then clapping. The buyer marks the cattle with mud.
