  1. Once upon a time there lived a soldier who fought in the Great War. He was an Irishman who lived near Armagh. He was married. One night his wife became ill.
Off he went for the doctor to Armagh. He rode a great black horse. Near Armagh he had to pass over a bridge. When he came to the bridge, the horse stood still and refused to go any further.
Then he turned the horse on the road and came to my grandfather's house. He went down along with the soldier to the bridge. But still the horse would not go past and neither of the men could see anything at all. Then my grandfather got on the horse's back and poked down between its ears. Then he saw a man standing in front of the horse with a sword in his hand. Just as soon as my grandfather saw the man he disappeared. The man then continued his journey and arrived home safely.
