- A story is told of Queen Alexandra that she often went out among the poor people on her estates and she sometimes visited the miners wives,
One time she called into a house where she was not known. There was an old woman sitting in a chair at the fire darning socks.
The queen began to talk to her and she said to the queen,
Oh: dear there's nobody but you and me knows the 'orrible 'oles the men make in the 'eels of the socks.
