    children were seated on stone seats and seats made from sods No child was allowed to write till he was three years at school. Then he was allowed to write on a slate with a slate pencil and afterwards with a quill pen made from the feather of a goose.
    There were three stages of books in those days. The were called the "Primmer," "The Universal" and "The Mansel." The subjects taught were English reading and writing and Arithmetic. Unitry Method was the chief rule taught in Arithmetic.
