  1. You Monaghan sportsmen I pray you draw near.
    In these simple verses the truth you shall hear.
    The deeds of a hero reared near Ballybay.
    And they call him Hugh Jackson I hear people say.

    His mills, kilns and barns they cut a fine show.
    His cloth from the North to the city does do.
    For bleaching and lapping he exceeds them all.
    And he is best approved of in the linen hall.

    Now more of his praises I mean to begin.
