    On the twelfth of July an Orange Walk was held and the Orange men of Loughmourne and the surrounding districts walked to Monaghan. It was customary at that time for catholics alone to wear frieze coats. This man - Montgomery was at the walk and contrary to custom he happened to be wearing a frieze coat. The grand master of the Order noticed this and believing him to be a catholic rode his horse over him and killed him.
