  1. The Local Fairs
    Local fairs are usually held at the town in a special place for the purpose of selling and buying all sorts and sizes of cattle. Ballybay fair is held beside Hall-Street school.
    When cattle are scarce the buyers go through the country buying. They generally give a better prise than in the towns.
    There were fairs held long ago at Ballytrain but were stopped on account of no trains going to or from this place. In those days there were no lorries like now. There was a chapel and grave-yard, and also a fort at this place. The chapel and fort are to be seen there still. There were fairs held at Newbliss long ago but as at
