  1. In the year 1840 ed. D the children of Carracharra district attended a "hedge" school in a sort of shed or hut in Carrickamore in the west end of Farney, Co. Monaghan. This was called a hedge school but in really was not in the through sense of the word. The teacher aman called Sheridan - was paid by the English government, and was supposed to teach portions of the testament from the blue books which were supplied by Shirley's rent office. Sheridan who of course was a catholic never used these books.
