  1. Mich Leary was also a good runner who lived above Shercock. He was the best runner around this district. One day he was out in a rushy field and he saw a rabbit rising out of a bush of rushes. He was in his bare feet and he ran after her. He was coming very the rabbit and he stooped down to get hold of her, he was running so fast he fell on her and killed her. Frank Marron was a great jumper who lived in Farney. He built a clamp of turf to the height of his chin and stood behind it and jumped over it. The onlookers were Thomas Duffy, John Daly and Ned Duffy. The best walker around here was Mathew Fox. He could walk quicker than a horse could run.

  2. The best singers around here were Peter Gillan and Patrick Mac Mahon. They went to dances in the neighbouring houses such as in John Duffy's at Carrachanra. Thomas Duffy and Joe Lamb went to the dance and told stories. Thomas Duffy could mow an acre of corn in a day. He was the best mower in the district.
