  1. Last night the sun went pale to bed,
    The moon and haloes hid their heads:
    The boading shepherd heaves a sigh,
    To see a rainbow spand the sky.
    The walls are damp the ditches swell,
    Closed is pinkedeyed pimple nell,
    Loud quack the ducks, the peacocks cry,
    The distant hills are looking nigh.
    The old people in my district guide themselves by sayings, which were handed down to them from their father and Grandfathers, regarding the approaching weather.
