  1. As I strayed on a fine April evening,
For to taste the sweet fragrance of Spring,
As the meadows with daisies were covered
And the hedges with music did sing
I heard from beneath a green willow,
Like the sigh of a bosom in pain
As I walked I discovered two lovers
All alone in Lord Blayney's Demesne.
    Chorus
Oh, Mary far distant I wander
And to-morrow I leave you in pain
Oh, but sad was the heart of two lovers
That strayed through Lord Blayney's Demesne.
    II
But wherever I go lovely Mary
Your image my bosom shall wear
Until death come cold and oblivient
Thy heart I shall cherish with care
When the foes all surround me in battle
