  1. Castleshane was built by Shane Mac Mahon. The castle covers about one acre of ground. There are fifty two rooms in the castle.There was about a hundred servants employed. The castle was burned in the year one thousand nine hundred and twenty. The landlord of this district lived in Castleshane and many are the stories that are told of his tyranny. At the time of the fire the owner was in England but his wife was at Castleshane. Some say the castle was burned by the I.R.A. to prevent it being used by the Black and Tans.
