    About 3 miles outside Carrickmacross there is a cave situated on a large farm owned by Mrs. [Hedlagh]. The old people of that district say that during the Rebellion of 1916 the Irish Soldiers hid there. They slept and dined there. The furniture that they had is to be seen there still.

    In the same district there is a field called Connolly's Hill. Long ago there was a hedge school on this hill. The name of the man who taughat there was Connolly and hence its name by which it is known to-day.
