  1. Long ago some tailors were working in a house making clothes. There was a child in the cradle who was always crying and it was a great worry to the woman of the house. No matter what attention it got it was never satisfied but was crying from morning till night. The mother was heart-broken and tried everything she could think of but all was no use, it continued crying & lamenting all the time.
    Once the mother had to go to the well for water & no sooner had she gone outside the door than the crying stopped. The child jumped sitting up in the cradle.
    "Have any of you a pipe? I'm lost for a smoke," said he.
    The tailors were astonished but one of them got a pipe, put a coal on it, and handed it to him.
    He took the pipe, puffed away at it for some time...
    "Would you care for a tune?" said he
    "We would," said they, "but there's nothing to play on here.
    "I'll soon get something" said he & he pulled out a bagpipes from under the pillow & began to play the most enchanting music you ever heard.
    He continued playing until suddenly a footstep was heard coming up the street when all at once the
