He believed in Ghosts and when a young man would not go out alone except on very urgent business. He was passionately fond of fishing. One night with a companion he was fishing in the Abha n Criath which runs by Carradubh School. About a half a mile from the river is Kilquane Graveyard in the parish of Rathmore.
