  1. Amhrán

One day as I chanced for to roam ¶ Is mo chaol-each agam-sa go groidhe ¶ I espied a fair maid all alone ¶ Is í ag déanamh isteach ar Thráiglí

    Ó bhéal-aithris Shéamuis Ághais
    Aos – 68 Gairm-bheatha – Spailpín Fánach
I mbaile fearainn Lios-na-gCeann, Cill Áirne agus a saoluíodh agus a tógadh thiar in áit-éigin le hais Baile an Fheirtéirigh.

One day as I chance to roam
Is mo chaol-each agam-sa go groidhe
I espied a fair maid all alone
Is í ag déanamh isteach ar Thráighlí
Her cheeks were as red as a rose,
Is a béilín go ro-mhílis binn.
I asked her how far would she go
No a’ dtiocfadh sí liom go Tráighlí
    11.
She spoke with a pitiful tone
Agus d’fhreagair sí mise gan mhoill
    “My father distracted would go
Is beadh mo mháthairín a géar-gol is a’ caoi
Besides that my fortune is low
Is beadh mo earaid go léir ar mo dhruím
If away with a stranger I’d go
Ag taisteal na mbóthar gan suim.
