    No wonder the people here hated them and hunted them without mercy. They showed no mercy themselves but threatened the poor tenants to evict them before night if they hadn't the fattest sheep or cow sent to them before night. If they failed they were evicted or else their rents were raised often to as high as £20 or £25.
    No wonder people were then in poverty all their lives and no wonder they had to emigrate to a foreign land, while their fat landlords and their agents were living in luxury
