    Landlords came into power as a result of the English invasion.
    The land was first divided into large holdings and afterwards it was sub-divided. The landlords exercised very severe powers over their tenants. They could make no improvements in their houses or farms without the consent of the landlord. If they did, their rents would be raised greatly.
