  1. There are seven houses now in my townland, but there were only five houses in it in olden times. The most of them are slated houses now, but it was thatched houses that were in my townland long ago.
    The thatch that was used in olden times was rushes, and it was fastened on the house with splinters of bogdeal. Long ago the bed used to be made in the corner of the kitchen. The fireplace was always against the wall. Long ago it is in the middle of the floor the fire used to be, but there used be no windows in the house.
    The floor used to be made of mud and stones.
    It was turf was used for firing in olden times.
