  1. In olden times there was no school in our land, nor was there any school in the townland.
    There was a school in Tureen, (Knocknagnee, Co. Cork) in Dannie Leader's land.
    The teacher taught reading, writing, and arithmetic.
    The teacher was paid by the pupils. Irish was also spoken by the pupils and by the teacher, but it wasn't taught.
    Writing was done with pencil and pen.
