  1. Bogdeal was very useful in the olden times. The old men would cut it up into long splinters and dry the splinters over the fire and have them ready for every night. They would light the splinter in the fire and with the light in their hands read the newspapers in the long Winter's night until 12 o clock and some of these old people were known to read with that light without glasses upto eighty years of age.
    I wrote down this story from the mouth of my mother on the 29.3.1938. Mrs Kelliher farmers wife age 60.
