Gooseberry Wine

To make nine gallons of wine take half a bushel of fruit, crushed or pounded, twenty eight pounds of loaf sugar, and a quart of brandy.
When the fruit is well boiled pour in the brandy and sugar and mix well for some time. Leave to boil then for some hours. Then strain. This is most excellent for a cold.
