  1. A great sign of good weather is the double cry of the curlew and a bad sign of the weather is the single cry of the curlew.
    A very bad sign of the weather is the point of the wind to be towards Castlemaine and a very good sign of the weather is to have the wind blowing from the East.
    There is an old proverb about the rainbow: The proverb is:-
    "A rainbow in the morning is the shepherd's warning
    A rainbow at night is the shepherd's delight."
    A great sign of coming storm or rain is to hear the ocean moaning aloud and far away.
    If the cat or dog creeps alongside the fire it is a bad sign of the weather.
    It is a very bad sign of the weather to see the swallows flying low.
    A short rainbow or Maidrín Gaoithe is supposed to be a good sign of the weather.
    It is a good sign of the weather to see the smoke going up straight from the chimney, while it is a bad sign of the weather to see the wind blowing it sideways.
    It is a very bad of the weather to see the soot falling or to see the floor and salt getting wet in a house.
    It is also a bad sign of the weather to see ring all round the moon.
    It is a very bad sign of the weather to see the mountains looking nigh.
