- I also make snares from snare wire and sticks. To make this I get 4 or 5 strands of very fine wire and twist them. I then make a loop at one end of the wire and tie the other end to a stick. I then stick it in the path leading to a rabbits burrow. When he comes along he sticks his head into the loop but is unable to get away as the stick is firmly held in the ground.
- I also make castle-tops of pieces of seasoned ash. I first cut out a piece of round timber coming to a point at one end of it. I get a spear made in a forge, and drive in the pointed end - leaving a piece 11/2" or 1" protrude from the point. The spear is pointed in order to break the tops of my opponents. I then get a strong cord and wind it round the top commencing on the spear. I put the end of the cord between the "lúidín" and second last finger and holding the "top" between my index finger and thumb I spin it on the ground. I sometimes use a whip to whip it round but this is not successful when the spear is long.
- I also make balls from the hair of cows.I collect it from the backs of cows & roll it into a ball between my palms & I do not let it get wet as it then would not hop.
