  1. Marriages usually take place locally during Shrove and especially on Shrove Thursday.
    The months thought to be unlucky for marriage are May and September. There is an old saying "Marry in May and you'll sue the day". The days thought to be unlucky for marriage are Fridays and Mondays.
    Matches are made in the district. Money is given as a dowry as also are stock and goods.
    Marriages took place in the houses in former times. The priest came and married the couple, this happened about seventy or eighty years ago.
    On wedding-day the man goes to the church first and does not see the bride until he meets her in the church.
    Rice and confetti is shaken on the newly married couple.
    The bride wears "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue."
    A wedding-feast is held in the bride's house.
    Straw-boys visit the house dressed in straw hats and the girls wear boys' clothes and the boys
