  1. Come boys draw near, and a song I will sing,
    I'll tell you a little of a curious thing.
    About the Maugha bonfire to honour St. John,
    But before half the night into bed I was gone

    That night I prepared for the bonfire to go
    When I saw the light at the "bull" of the road
    Horns were sounded along by Meeng School
    And I thought to myself "Tis the dawn of Home Rule"
    Re-re-fal etc.
    When I arrived they had fire with a big rail of turf
    A fire rock of bogdeal and a large bush of furze
    The music began, how my heart leaped with joy
    For I thought the redemption of Eireann was nigh
    Re-re-fal etc.
