  1. A cure for ear-ache was to blow the smoke of tobacco strongly into the aching ear.
    To cure the sting of a bee apply to the sting a cloth dipped in water having blue dissolved in it.
    To cure a tooth-ache rub the tooth with tobacco ashes after each meal.
    The cure for sore eyes or weak sight was to wash with cold or salt water or with the juice of eye-bright. (a common herb)
    The cure for a sprain was to bathe the sprained part with cold spring water twice daily for 21 days.
    To cure a stye make the sign of the cross over it three mornings in succession.
    Long ago people used to go to a grave-yard between twelve and one oclock in the night, there they used to pull nettles and then boil them. The nettle-water was supposed to be very good for curing body sores.
