  1. There is a fair held in our district the twelfth month of every year, on the nineteenth of December. All the farmers come there with cattle, sheep and goats to sell to sell. In olden times they used sell donkeys also. There is no Fair field in Blennerville so they sell and buy in the middle of the street. Long ago they used give a toll which meant that if anyone had some thing to sell they had to pay something for the use of the street for the day. Who ever sold a beast would have to give something as a luck-penny. It is also the custom with the children to get up early and go out with sticks the morning of the fair, and ask anybody that has anything to sell for their "fairing" which means a few pennies for sweets. Any man who had nothing to sell would say "You're the fairest girl I met to day.
    In Tralee there is a pig fair held in the market every fortnight, and a cattle fair once a month in the fair field at the top of the rock. Buyers often go to the farmer's house's buying cattle, and horses from the farmers when there is
