  1. In Foley's wood, and Foley's glen, there were masses said during the penal times. The people used to gather together in Foleys wood, while a priest said mass, usually a rock as altar.
In many farm-houses Masses have been said during the Penal Times. Many priests have been beheaded in our district especially around Killarney and Foley's glen. Around the Crag, in the Kerries there was a priest beheaded while saying Mass there.
